"Dear connections, I recently completed my Master’s in Psychology and am looking for guidance or job opportunities in this field. I feel like my degrees haven’t prepared me for real-life practice and application, and would love it if someone could help me figure out what to do and where to go from here..."

One of the most popular specialisations in India - clinical psychology has a vast scope and high competition. Work settings include hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centres, and government or private organisations. While the starter salary might be a little low, there is a lot of room for financial growth. Almost all colleges for psychology in India offer this specialisation at the Master's level and beyond.
Considered as a "softer" sibling of clinical psychology, counseling psychology has observed tremendous growth in the past few years. One of the reasons for this is the easy entry as a professional - individuals with a Master's degree in clinical/counseling psychology can work in this field. The scope of this specialization has increased due to online therapy during the pandemic.
I/O Psychology is considered to be one of the highest paying specialisations in psychology. In the next few years, this field will be a dominating force in the discipline of psychology. It is also offered at most colleges at the Master's level. Work settings are diverse, mostly centred around the corporate sector.
While slowly gaining attention, sports psychology is still mainly categorised as a nonconventional field in psychology. Sports psychologists can work in both government and private sectors. Only a few colleges offer this specialisation however that is predicted to change due to the increasing awareness around well being of athletes in India.
An integral part of criminal investigation systems, currently India is lacking in forensic and criminal psychologists. It is an emerging field, and while the current lack of many scopes may seem demotivating, it is a chance to explore this field to create growth opportunities.
Lectureship and research in psychology is a well-sought career path, with over 6 lakh students appearing for the UGC NET exam. It is also considered an unexplored field but has great opportunities for those genuinely interested. We can never have too many lecturers or researchers!
A nonmainstream field, art and dance movement therapy have recently gained a lot of limelight because of its interdisciplinary nature. While career opportunities are currently limited, there is a lot of potentials to be unlocked!
Also considered as one of the highest paying fields in India, Neuropsychology is an important but challenging field. Neuropsychologists usually work in labs, hospitals, clinics, academic and research spaces, and rehabilitation centres.
Psychometricians are involved in the development of tools and instruments used to measure people's knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA). Another nonmainstream field in psychology, professionals usually work in research spaces or assessment centers.
